Superdistribution: a new kind of viral marketing

One interesting trend I learned about at GDC this year is 'superdistribution' -- which refers to players who share content by copying a game (or other type of media file) directly from handset to handset. Gamespot published a good article covering the panel where I first heard about this -- worth reading if you're following mobile entertainment trends.

Recognition & Reciprocity

Just ran across a fascinating software app called Glancing that's related to the social patterns among mobile users that I explored at GDC. Interesting approach to a social app -- lightweight, super-simple and based on deep-seated primate behavior about recognition and reciprocity. Worth a glance :-)

TheFeature :: Mogi: Second Generation Location-Based Gaming

Justin Hall, one of my favorite gaming writers & thinkers, just posted a great piece on Mogi: Second Generation Location-Based Gaming. I used Mogi as an example in my GDC talk - it's a fascinating take on mobile multiplayer gaming. I wish I could play!!! Guess I'll have to spend some time in Tokyo or Seoul to experience the cutting edge of pervasive mobile gaming.

For those of you interested in location-based mobile entertainment, here's a roundup of past & current examples. I think this overall area will be huge - and I'll bet that the games we'll see in 2-3 years will look VERY different from today's combat scenarios & scavenger hunts.
