Yesterday, I visited Harmonix, a Boston-based game development studio that's produced some of my favorite PS2 titles. I had a great time chatting with Alex Rigopulos and Greg LoPiccolo, who patiently answered my burning questions about Karaoke Revolution (KO) (a kick-ass party game that I've written about before). Turns out that ALL the audio tracks in KO were recorded by an outfit in Los Angeles; NONE are from the original recordings. Color me surprised - I could've sworn that some songs were original tracks. Somebody out there really knows how to nail a cover version :-)
I also met a lovely, dynamic woman named Tracy Rosenthal-Newsom, who showed me some new stuff that Harmonix is working on. Tracy has a 6-year-old, so we swapped stories about introducing KO into family events. It's really great to have a PS2 game that you can play with your kids. Harmonix will be announcing some exciting new products at E3 this year - so stay tuned for more innovative, family-friendly entertainment from this cutting-edge developer.
If you know of any PS2 titles that are great for kids (age 5 & up) please let me know! I'm on the hunt.
